Shelby Miller, MS, LMFT (she/her/hers)

Psychotherapist, real human, and lover of laughter

Welcome to my practice— I’d love to work with you. I have been in the field of counseling and psychotherapy for 20 years and have had the honor of working with diverse populations in the areas of trauma, addiction, university students, children and their families, couples and adults. I received my Master’s of Science in Counseling in 2008 from San Francisco State University, and have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California, New Jersey and Arizona. In 2013, I began advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and have since become a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, Certified Emotionally Focused Individual Therapist, and Emotionally Focused Therapy Supervisor in Training. For two decades, I have studied and practiced Vipassana meditation and Buddhist Psychology, and incorporate these practices into helping you heal. As a mother of two children, I can relate to and validate the joys and very real stressors associated with parenting.

My primary therapeutic focus is helping folks feel understood and cared for enough that the isolation of their pain is broken, thereby promoting new freedom to express, understand and move about in new ways. I believe strongly in being human, sensible, honest and flexible with you. Because the therapy process continues outside the therapy room, I strive to make the change process transparent and organized so as to allow empowerment around YOUR growth and healing.

As a cisgender, able-bodied white woman, I work to continuously learn about my privilege in the world and in my profession. I am committed to understanding the ongoing impact of racism, homophobia and transphobia. Your unique cultural and social experience/identity are welcomed and honored in my practice.
